Our Thanksgiving Table & a Yummy Apple Spice Cake Recipe

We are crazy about thanksgiving at the Lunt home. It's such a simple holiday all about gratitude, family, & good food. What's not to love?! Our table is set & ready to go. I like to do it a few days prior to save time on the day of.

I only have one set of chargers, but they are gold - which luckily looks great with almost everything. Chargers not only add another layer to your table to make it look more luxurious - they also protect your table from hot plates. I sewed these paisley napkins a few years ago & they have been great to use for lots of autumn meals.

{PS - If you're thinking, "Wow, her photography has improved", it's because my son took these photos for me. Thanks Chris!}

If you're ready to try something other than pumpkin pie for your thanksgiving dessert, I bet you'll love this Apple Cake as much as we do. I'm sharing the recipe with permission from my friend Debi {click here if you'd like to meet her}.
Apple Cake with Caramel Sauce
cake ingredients:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
Mix above ingredients & add:
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
The mixture at this point will be very crumbly - not at all like a typical cake batter. Fold in 4 cups of peeled, shredded apples {about 4 or 5 apples - I use golden delicious}.  Batter is very thick. Pour batter into a greased & floured 9x13 pan & bake at 350 for about 50 minutes. Look for a nice, light browning.
caramel sauce ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 can evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
Combine sauce ingredients & bring to a boil. Remove from heat & serve warm over cake. Top with whipping cream.
