Decorating a Young Adult Bedroom & a Studio 5 Appearance

Pin It!
For my segment on Studio 5, I used an example of a young adult room for a boy & for a girl.

First the boy's room. When my son returned from his mission, I wanted to surprise him with a "new" room. This was actually more of a necessity than a luxury, because we had used his room for storage while he was gone & it was a catastrophe needed help. {CLICK HERE for the original post about it.} I used some DIY elements & a few sentimental ideas to create a vibe that was masculine, but didn't take itself too seriously.

The girl's room was created by my friend Lisa. I love the rustic/global feeling this space evokes. {CLICK HERE} for the original room tour.

My Tips for Designing a Young Adult Room

  • Try to use things they can take with them when they leave home
  • Create a sense of sophistication without loosing the element of fun - a little whimsy is still a good thing
  •  DIY wherever possible {I think I may be "preaching to the choir" here!}
  • Use resources like Ikea & Home Goods for linens if you don't want to make them yourself
  • And finally, my tip for any kid's room - design with the next five years in mind. Make it something they can grow into & be happy for a long time.
