Our Polar Express Church Christmas Party

Hunny & I were in charge of the
Church Christmas party this year.
{Party & dinner for 240 people!}

The Polar Express was our theme.
And the children were invited to wear their pajamas.

We tried to make the room look like The North Pole
on a tiny budget.
Some of our creative girls made these huge snowflakes
that we hung from above. I loved them!
The blue tablecloths were inexpensive & added some
nice color to the room {$2.47 each at Zurchers}.
And we wrapped boxes for the centerpieces.
 Of course we had a train
& we used our Halloween fog machine
to make "steam" coming out of the front.
One of the biggest challenges was dealing with the
basketball hoop. We covered it with garland &
tried to make it look like a kind of a chandelier.
{It looked better in person.}
A highlight of the evening was when
some of our darling girls entertained us with a
Hot Chocolate Dance.
-Tickets-
We had our own wonderful conductor who punched
each passenger's ticket. We bought the pdf for the
tickets - then had them printed at Walgreens with 2 on a sheet. And there was a visit from Santa
{who gave each child a bell}.
Our menu:
  • Raspberry Bread Pudding
  • Frittata {crust-less quiche}
  • Pre-cooked Sausage {from Costco}
  • Mixed Fruit
  • Orange Juice
  • Hot Chocolate
Of course we had a spiritual message as well.
{It would have been empty without talking about the
REAL meaning of Christmas!}

It was a wonderful time!

  2. I'll try this again..... I have to let you know this is the most AMAZING ward Christmas dinner I have ever heard of! It looks like everything went off perfectly. I'm sure the kids were all enchanted! While I'm sure you had some help, I am equally sure your vision made it happen! Thanks for sharing with us!

    1. Thank you, Francine, for taking the time to leave your sweet comment. I'm so glad to have you as a new blog friend. While we had some glitches, the party was a wonderful time. Some of the kids still talk about it - which made all the work worth it! And yes, we did have LOTS of help setting up. 3. Hi Michelle,
    We are looking for ideas for our 2013 Ward Christmas Party and came upon your idea...can I just say how amazingly creative you are...we are going to attempt to throw this party, I figured if we start planning now, perhaps it will turn out as successful as yours. Can you let me know about the glitches, that I might avoid them. The Youth is in charge of putting organizing this party, and I'm sure the theme will motivate them to have fun with the planning and execution of it...can you let me know how I can get or purchase the tickets please? Love the simplicity of the decorations, yet classy...Is there any other pointers you can give me? I appreciate your creative gift. My email is niumatalolo@hotmail.com. Thanks so much. I look forward to hearing from you soon....Tina Niumatalolo.

  4. Michelle,
    How long ago did you do this party??? I just got assigned to be in charge of this year's ward Christmas party, and imagine my surprise when I started checking Pinerest for ideas and there you were! The train is gorgeous! Is that a mural or what? I can't get the full feel of it from the picture. I MUST have a train in the cultural hall, whether we build one out of cardboard or a mural or what. Your train is GORGEOUS! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE if you have any more pictures or ideas if you could share them with me! I'm so happy that I have a real time friend who's actually done this before! lol Thanks, honey bum!!

    Your friend, Cindy :)

    1. Hello Friend, What a fun coincidence that you are also in charge/using this theme! This was a super fun party. All the pics I have are pretty much on this post. {I was SUPER busy in the kitchen during the actual party.} So I didn't get a pic of the cute hot chocolate cups or the "Hot Chocolate Dancers"! But please feel free to call me anytime & we can discuss the yummy details of this party.

      Love ya! Michelle

    1. Hello Barb, Thank you for stopping by & for your sweet comment. We live in the SLC, Utah area & I rented our train from my friend who painted it. She does rent it out, but I know that all the weekends are spoken for this December. If you live in the area & if your party is on a week day {or night}, email me & I'll give you her information. Have fun & thanks for reading!

    1. Thank you so much. I was actually in the kitchen working away during our spiritual program & I didn't get to hear it. I just asked our bishop {like a pastor} to speak about how we were all taking an imaginary journey together {the party} & how neat it would be if we could all take an even better REAL journey together {discovery of our Savior's love & all sitting down together in heaven someday}. Hope that helps!

      Thanks so much for reading,
      Michelle

    3. One more question on your amazing party- how did you hang the snowflakes? It looks like you strung string or wire? Where did you secure it? I am decorating in our building's gym as well :)

    4. I think we used fishing line. Luckily our building has "eye hooks" or "eye screws" along each side of our cultural hall - perfect for making creative dreams come true! Thanks for visiting again & for your questions.
